I’ve always had a certain level of affinity with the Montreal Canadiens. I’m not sure what it is. It could be because of my family roots in Quebec (which I’m working more and more to discover) or it could be because of the fact that they’re not the Toronto Maple Leafs. Either way it was sad to see them knocked out of the playoffs so early in their 100th anniversary season. Oh well, so it goes.

Much will be written– if it hasn’t already– about the Canadiens and their subpar performance at the end of the regular season. Scapegoats, Price or Kovalev or Koivu or Gainey, will be found and the team will most likely be shaken up and changed. But for my money, they’re one of the most exciting teams in the NHL and play a brand of hockey that should be emulated elsewhere.

For now, though, let’s remember the better days. And my favourite NHL goalie of all time.
