We’d like to talk to you about the presentation/event you are involved in at Congress 2012 (congress2012.ca) to see if you’d be interested in being a part of our media relations program.

  2. Toronto Urban Fellow says:

Looking at your CV – how is it possible that you were selected for Toronto Urban Fellow, when you do not meet the eligibility?
TUF eligibility for the year 2015-2016 stated that: Applicants must have graduated from a Master’s, LLB, JD or PhD program within the past three years, not earlier than January 2012; If you are currently enrolled in a Master’s, LLB, JD or PhD level program, you will need to meet all of your academic criteria in order to be eligible to graduate before the Urban Fellows program begins on September 7, 2015.

Your education information on CV is contradicting the above. You declined the offer because you were deemed ineligible? ie. expected to but not able to complete the PhD before September 7, 2015?

Thank you for your comment and question. I am happy to clarify.

Last spring, I applied to the TUF program and completed the interview process. At the beginning of that August, I was informed that I would not be offered a position. I then secured an opportunity to create and direct an original fourth-year seminar at York University. I accepted this offer and extended my studies, as the position required that I be a registered graduate student. I also revised my Ph.D. research plan to conduct further work and improve my dissertation.

On September 1, I was informed that I had intact been “short-listed” for the TUF program and was offered a spot that had become available (earlier this year, I was also offered the chance to fill a 6-month vacancy in the program). I declined both of these positions to fulfill my teaching commitments at York. I have since finished directing the course and am now finalizing my dissertation and finishing my program this summer.

I have updated my CV to reflect this information and am happy to pass along copies of correspondence confirming these events. Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Thank you for your interest in my experiences and CV.
